Portia De Rossi Pays Tribute To Murdered Teenager

Actress Portia De Rossi is to pay tribute to a murdered gay teenager in a new ad.

Grey's Anatomy's T R Knight, Janet Jackson, Andre 3000 and Ashanti also appear in the 60-second ad against homophobia, following the death of teenager Lawrence King.

15-year-old Lawrence was shot in the head at the EO Green School in Oxnard, California on 12 February, reportedly for being gay.

King's teen killer, 14-year-old Brandon McInerney, apparently targeted the student because he asked him to be his date for St. Valentine's Day.

The ad featuring the stars debuted on America's gay TV network Logo last Monday.

"Imagine if wearing make-up and a dress could get you killed. For 15-year-old Lawrence King, that's just what happened," Rossi says in the video.

Earlier this month, de Rossi's partner comedienne Ellen DeGeneres also spoke of the incident in an emotional outburst on her show.

DeGeneres says, "Larry was not a second class citizen and I am not a second class citizen. It's okay to be gay."

Some reports believe that McInerney - who has been charged with murder and the commission of a hate crime - will be tried as an adult, which means he could face 50 years to life in prison if convicted.
