George Michael Announces US Tour

George Michael is to tour the US and Canada for the first time in 17 years.

The singer has announced a 22 date tour beginning in San Diego on 17 June ending Florida on 3 August.

The tour, called 25Live, follows the forthcoming release of his greatest hits album Twenty Five in the States.

The album came out in the UK last November after a two-leg European tour in 2006 and 2007.

George has also just signed a multi-million pound deal with HarperCollins to write his "no-holds-barred" autobiography, which is due out in the autumn.

The 44-year-old singer has had 10 number one singles in the US, his last being his 1991 duet with Elton John, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

1991 was also the year of his last tour of the States before he was charged with 'engaging in a lewd act' in a California public toilet, fined $810 and ordered to do 80 hours of community service.

Michael will make his US acting debut on Wednesday when he will play himself in an episode of legal drama Eli Jones, which also stars British actor Jonny Lee Miller. Each episode of the show is titled after one of Michael's songs.

The 25Live European tour broke several ticket sales records, most notably in Copenhagen. Michael's concert at The Parken Stadium sold over 50,000 tickets in the matter of minutes, shattering the previous ticket sales record at the venue, formerly held by U2.

Michael has recently teamed up with iTunes and Ticketmaster to produce a media package which allows fans rare access to Michael's videos, songs, and tickets to one of his concerts.
