Man Arrested Over Obtaining Services Dishonestly

Police have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with a London wide investigation into obtaining 'services' dishonestly.

Man Arrested Over Obtaining Services DishonestlyThe man, who was arrested in Bangor, north Wales, is suspected of hiring male sex workers and not paying for them.

It follows an investigation by Southwark Community Support Unit, on behalf of the Metropolitan Police Service, which has been working with Gaydar.

Details of the suspect were circulated through the UK. LGBT Liaison Officers spoke to numerous male escorts and others who use the Gaydar site.

"Gaydar has always worked closely with the police, in particular the Met Police, to ensure that people causing serious problems on our sites are dealt with appropriately," said Paul Trickey, client services manager for Gaydar.

"In this case we are particularly pleased about the success of the LGBT Liaison Officers profiles on Gaydar in building trust between vulnerable sections of the gay community and the police. This has encouraged many of our users to talk to the police and report crimes that would normally go unreported," Paul adds.

A total of 17 offences have been uncovered that appear to be linked by the same suspect, including counts of obtaining services by deception, two allegations of theft, one of administering a substance with intent and one allegation of rape.

Last summer support workers at SW5, a sexual health clinic for sex workers, alerted police about a man who was hiring male prostitutes and not paying for their services.

The man has been bailed to return in May as police continue their investigations.

"A number of male escorts made the decision to place their trust in the police and report these crimes," said PC Russell Pritchard, LGBT Liaison Officer for Southwark Police, who co-ordinated the investigation.

"If there is anyone who believes they have been a victim of a similar offence, they should contact us on 020 7232 6159, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous," he added.
