Situated in the Mediterranean Sea, Minorca (Menorca both in Catalan and Spanish) is one of the Balearic Islands. It was named this way since it is smaller than the nearby island of Majorca. Major towns are Ciutadella and Mao.

Locals speak Menorqui, a dialect of Catalan, which is characterized by the use of es for the masculine instead of the and the borrowing of some English words dating back to the British occupation (grevi from gravy).

Minorca boasts megalithic stone monuments which include navetes, taulas, and talaiots. Some of the local specialties are sobrassada (sausage with paprika), gin (strong liquor), Mao o cheese (original cheese of the island).
