Bariloche Hotels Reservation
Bariloche, situated in the region known as Patagonia, is a popular winter and summer resort. The small city overlooks the beautiful Lake Nahuel Huapi. The city reminds the visitor of a Swiss village in scenery including a Cathedral and clock tower in the center.
The area is well-known for its evergreen forests, snowcapped peaks, deep blue and transparent green lakes, spring flowers, and alpine architecture. It is also a very lively town featuring great restaurants and entertainment. Traditional foods include jams and jellies, chocolates, beer, smoked fish, pancakes and cheeses.
The ski season runs from June to September. The main mountain is Cerro Catedral which is 18 kilometers from the city center. The mountain offers both marked and unmarked trails for skiers of every level. During the summer, sport lovers can enjoy sports such as whitewater rafting, biking, hiking and golfing.
The city's airport is 12 miles from the city. It is a two and a half hour flight between Buenos Aires and Bariloche. The city also offers bus service to and from many parts of the country.
Bariloche Cathedral
Standing on the shores of the lake lies the Cathedral of Nuestra Senora de Nahuel Huapi. It features almost 50 stained glass windows which depict religious themes and local history.
Museo de la Patagonia
The museum contains a great collection of ethnographic and archeological exhibits. It is located in the downtown Civic Center(Centro Civico) and is open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Tuesday and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Civic Center
Located in the center of Bariloche, the civic center is a group of mediaval style buildings which include the City Hall, Museo de la Patagonia, tourist office, library, police station, exhibition hall and a National Parks office.
Calle Mitre
In this main shopping street travellers can marvel at interesting buildings with wooden facades hose cafes, chocolate shops, souvenier stands and restaurants.
Puerto San Carlos
From this dock ships come to and go from Bariloche. Excursions to Victoria Island and many other boat trips are also available.
