Volunteers Needed For Manchester Pride

Manchester Pride is appealing for volunteers to help out behind the scenes at their 18th birthday this year.

The event, which takes place between 15-25 August, needs people from all backgrounds to help showcase Manchester to festival goers arriving in the city from across the UK and the world.

Organisers say volunteers will have the chance to learn new skills, meet lots of great people and contribute to one of Manchester’s biggest annual events.

Opportunities available include big weekend crew, promotions assistants, parade steward and parade collectors.

“Last year we had over 100 volunteers helping out across all areas of the festival. They play an integral part in the running of the event and without them; the festival just wouldn’t be the same," Jackie Crozier, festival manager of Manchester Pride.

“Volunteering has been amazing for my personal development. I’ve made new friends but I also feel like a bigger part of the LGBT community," Debbie Anderson, a volunteer for Manchester Pride.

“Having the confidence to volunteer at an event like this has given me so much pride in myself. It’s also where I met my lovely girlfriend.”

As part of it's 18th birthday celebration, the organisers are holding an exhibition called My First Pride, which will document over 18 years of ‘first timers at pride’.

The exhibition is being held at Urbis – one of Manchester’s most iconic buildings - and will highlight the effect Manchester Pride has had on people’s lives and display the many memories they have made.

People are urged to submit dated photos, words, wristbands, flyers and posters from their first pride experience.
